If you were asked the question, 'do you know Albert Einstein? '. The obvious response from most of you would be a big 'yes '. The impression will be a big 'No' if inquired about Mileva Marić. For the sake of intimation of facts, she was the only person who overtook Einstein in terms of marks and the sole female admitted to the Institute in Zurich with boys. Her talent always overawed the teachers. Moreover, she was married to Einstein and gave birth to 3 children. Similar to that of every female storyline, especially during that aeon, she was shackled to the conventional methodology of chores and child-rearing. Her growth was thwarted by the misogynistic tenets of the then century which appropriated females only to household and works thereto. On the other hand, Einstein has been bestowed with the title of genius. Mileva even satisfies herself by helping her husband in his first few works and sacrifices her dreams for his pursuance of science. Her indulges were compromised for his.
The eighteen century witnessed commencing of the women's movement to ascertain dignity and equality for females. Decades-long fights and struggles endowed them to attain the position not as second citizens but as equal. The movements thereof endorsed to make ratified laws to support women. Starting articles of our revered Constitution, there are innumerable laws supporting women. All these add to the extensive branch of women empowerment in India. However, such laws look sublime in papers but on grounds, they are sluggish. The impediment in deploying such laws on grounds arises due to the lack of education prevailing among the masses.
Education is the primacy to achieve gender equality. We entrust such jobs with educational bodies created in our country. But when such institutions themselves become subverted by stating offensive statements against women. The whole point of women's struggle becomes futile. In order to achieve the virtue of gender equity, we require cooperation from every part I.e laws, people and educational institutions. It's high time we change our prejudiced mindset to civilised and act with rationality. The duty is to act in compliance with the moral agenda and not the other way around.
We should not wish to create any submissive gender compromising their dreams and aspiration for another but people standing shoulder to shoulder in a healthy environment with equal opportunity.
TO BECOME MILEVA OR EINSTEIN, THE CHOICE IS YOURS. BUT THE OBLIGATION IS OURS AS CITIZENS TO ENSURE THAT CHOICE IS SAVED FOR OUR POSTERITY WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION.
